UHWM Sheets
UHMW, short for Ultra-High Molecular Weight polyethylene, is a high-performance thermoplastic engineering plastic. It is tough and durable as a result of it's extremely long polymer chains.
Key Properties:
· Abrasion Resistance and Extreme Wear - UHMW is often called one of the best plastics for resisting wear and tear, sometimes even surpassing carbon steel in sliding abrasion tests.
· Ultra-Low Coefficient of Friction - it has a very low-friction, self lubricating surface(second only to PTFE/Teflon in many cases), which reduces drag and wear on components.
· High-Impact Strength - UHMW currently boasts the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic, meaning it can absorb significant shocks without cracking or breaking.
· Corrosion and Chemical Resistance - it is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, moisture and common cleaning agents.
· Low Temperature Toughness - it maintains exceptional toughness even at cryogenic temperatures.
· Biocompatibility - certain grades are non-toxic, odorless and approved by regulatory bodies for safe contact with food and in medical applications.
UHWM has a large range of uses some examples are: synthetic ice rinks, cutting boards, truck bed liners, boat rub rails and outrigger pads for cranes.
