Twinwall Sheets
Twinwall sheets are lightweight, rigid plastic panels made with a two-layer (or multi-layer) structure connected by internal ribs. This design creates a series of hollow channels—kind of like a plastic version of corrugated cardboard, but much stronger and weather-resistant.
What they’re made of
Most twinwall sheets are made from polycarbonate or polypropylene:
- Polycarbonate twinwall → very strong, impact-resistant, often used for roofing or greenhouses
- Polypropylene twinwall → lighter and cheaper, often used for signs, packaging, or temporary barriers
Key features
- Hollow core structure: The internal channels trap air, providing insulation
- Lightweight: Much lighter than solid plastic or glass
- Strong and durable: Especially polycarbonate versions, which can withstand impacts and harsh weather
- Translucent: Allows light through while diffusing it (not fully transparent)
- Weather-resistant: Many sheets include UV protection coatings
- Easy to cut and install: Can be shaped with basic tools
Common uses
- Greenhouses and garden cloches
- Roofing panels (patios, pergolas, carports)
- Skylights
- Signage and display boards
- Protective barriers or partitions
Thickness options
They typically come in different thicknesses (e.g., 4mm, 6mm, 10mm, 16mm), where:
- Thicker sheets = better insulation and strength
- Thinner sheets = lighter and more flexible
Why people choose twinwall
They offer a balance between strength, insulation, light transmission, and cost, making them a popular alternative to glass or solid plastic sheets.
